Mujeres De Xeabaj 2 Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy peaches, apples, plums, and avocados.

Mujeres De Xeabaj 2 Group's story

This group of 9 Maya K’iche’ women is excited to seek its first loan with Kiva. In Guatemala, they’re known for wearing traditional clothing, featuring patterns and colors unique to their hometowns and communities. As entrepreneurs, these ladies run convenience stores and fruit stands, using these economic opportunities to give their children an education and provide a better future for their families.

One of these ladies, Maria, is 30 years old, and carries herself confidently in the group. She’s a single mom with an 8-year-old son. He’s her inspiration to work hard every day selling fruits in the market. With this Kiva loan, she hopes to grow her business buying peaches, apples, plums, and avocados.

Fortunately, the ladies in this Trust Bank don’t work alone. They have the support of Kiva’s field partner, Friendship Bridge, to help them combat the challenges of living in poverty. Friendship Bridge not only helps them access credit, but supplements those funds with educational programs and health services.

Each month, Maria and the other ladies receive a new training on a business, health, or personal development topic. They’ve learned how to save money and invest appropriately in their businesses to generate more revenue, about nutrition, and also about self-esteem.

By supporting these ladies, you’re empowering in their businesses, homes, and personal lives, helping them establish a strong foundation for success.

Thank you!
