El Progreso Del Peje 2 Group's story

Marie lives in a batey (a settlement of sugarcane workers) in San Pedro de Macorís province in the Dominican Republic. Bateys are very poor communities inhabited mainly by immigrants from Haiti. This is the case for Marie, who came to the Dominican Republic 36 years ago looking for work to help her family.

Like all immigrant women, Marie started a business in order to earn a livelihood. She sells used clothing, a very common business in San Pedro de Macorís. Despite this, Marie says that she has a good customer base. One of the challenges she faces in her business is the end of the sugar harvest, as her sales fall during this period.

Marie sells clothing such as dresses, skirts, blouses, trousers and other items. Her dream is to have her own shop where she could sell her goods, as well as a house in a better area. The business selling used clothing has helped her provide for her children, who always have food on the table.

Marie needs your help to buy merchandise such as dresses, skirts, blouses, trousers and so on, and to continue with her business.
