Rosada 2 Group's story

Petrona is 59 years old. Her father died when she was four, and her mother died when she was five. She was raised by her two older brothers. When they married, she was ten, she was battered by her sisters-in-law. At that age she did the domestic works, because her sisters-in-law scold her. Everyday she had to take care of sheep.

When she was eighteen, she married. She has four children, and she allowed them to study, because she could not get any education, and she suffered too much because the loss of her parents.

She found out about the opportunity to get loans from Chajulense Association of Women United for Life. With her first credit, she began buying and selling maize, with her second and third credit, and this year's credit, she will expand her business activity, buying and selling maize.

She is very grateful to the organization for the support given to her and her family, because she has generated a business and above all helps with the expenses of the family.

Petrona is the leader of Rosada, a group integrated by eight women, six from the Ixil Maya ethnicity and two from the K’iche’ Maya ethnicity. The group will use their loan for agriculture 12.5%, textile 62.5%, and retail 25.0%. On average, each member of the group has 4 children, the average age of the members of the group is 39 years old. 58% are illiterate, 14% did not ended their Primary education, and 28% ended their secondary education.
