Mary's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy quality breeds of poultry and to help a widowed mom make extra income to meet the rising cost of living.

Mary's story

Hello Kiva community!

Mary (pictured in her simple house) is a widowed mom who works six days of the week to make sure she is able to meet the demands of her lovely children and grandchildren. She lives with her family in Limuru, Kenya. Her innate qualities of perseverance and determination have sustained her farm for more than eight years. She has gained a great deal of experience. To afford a decent and comfortable life for her children, she has been selling milk, eggs, and a variety of food crops from her farmland. To make ends meet and make extra cash, she has also been engaging in another small personal business.

The Limuru area is densely populated, and the demand for poultry products and eggs is very high. Like many farmers from her region, she finds poultry farming very enjoyable, and she stated that the most enjoyable part about poultry farming is, “the increased profits.” Her biggest challenge, however, is meeting the very high demand. She lacks funds to increase her poultry farming, and she is seeking a loan of 100,000 KES (Kenyan shillings) to buy more poultry. Being a widowed mom and seeking access to funds is very challenging, but through institutions such as Juhudi Kilimo via Kiva, she feels relieved knowing that her dream will be achieved and that she will be able to buy more poultry. The extra income she will get will be used to fully repay the loan.

Mary is very thankful for your contribution in advance.
