John's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase quality farm inputs such as fertilizers to improve his coffee farm.

John's story

John is a smallholder farmer from the Kerugoya region, one of the poorest regions in Kenya. He has siblings who all look up to him.

With very few resources, John has pulled through. He is a responsible and diligent farmer, involved in coffee, dairy, and maize (corn) farming. His work brings home important income. He gets help with the work from his family members.

John is seeking a loan to purchase quality farm inputs. He will use the money from your loan to buy important supplies such as fertilizers to improve his coffee farm. He also plans to use part of the money to pay laborers who will help him on his coffee farm.

John is optimistic that this year's harvest will be better than last season's. Income from the dairy business will be used to make initial loan repayments until the coffee is harvested and sold.

Most microfinance organizations, particularly in the Kerugoya area of Kenya, don’t give loans to smallholder farmers, but Juhudi Kilimo is different. Juhudi Kilimo is expanding into this market and is happy to provide Kiva lenders with the opportunity to support Kenyan smallholder farmers.

John is really thankful for your future help and support. Be inspired - make a loan!
