Mateaki's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a wire to build a fence on her plantation for safety and also to buy watermelon seeds to grow her watermelon plantation.

Mateaki's story

Mateaki is 42 years old, married, and has three children. They are all still currently attending school. They are living together at their owned home in the town area of Vava'u. Her husband works as a farmer on their plantation and supported Mateaki's business. They run the business together in order to earn income to operate their family.

Mateaki and her husband grow kava Tonga (Tongan beer) and watermelon. When they harvest the watermelon, they sell it at the market, and with their kava Tonga, they either take it to Tongatapu, the main Island, and sell it there, or they take it overseas to earn income to help them and also to pay back the loan.

She's one of the successful clients of SPBD, with multiple loan cycles that she already successfully paid. She faces challenges in marketing their watermelon. In the future, her vision is to keep on running her business to help her family and also to educate her children for a better future.
