A loan helped to build a storehouse.

Jorge's story

Jorge is 27 years old and lives in the town of Coroico, in the Yungas area of the department of La Paz, better known for its tourist road, "Camino de la Muerte" [Road of death], and its warm, comfortable weather. He lives in his own home on his plot of farmland.

Jorge has been a farmer for five years, work he learned from his parents. He works growing coca leaves and citrus. Coca leaf is native to Quechua culture. It's used for "acullico" [a social and medicinal practice], which is to chew it and leave it in the jaw.

He sells his product at the local market as well as at the market in the city of La Paz. The advantage he has is that he reserves part of his harvest to sell according to supply and demand.

This is the first loan he's getting from Fundación Sartawi. He's going to use it to build a storehouse for storing his harvest as well as for protecting his work tools.
