Javier's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped Javier pay for his programming education to secure a career path in Mexico as a returned migrant from the US.

Javier's story

Javier was born in Mexico City but raised in Beverly Hills, Michigan. Although he considers his time there as pleasant, the fact that Javier was undocumented was a major blockage in his life. This meant Javier was more or less forced to return. His return was complicated because the Mexican school system did not recognize his education as official, while his lack of Spanish on a working level created further obstacles for him.

Javier started med school, but in order to support himself financially, he had to work for an IT-firm. It was here that he found his passion for the tech sector.

Wanting to use his newfound passion to finally overcome his life’s obstacles, Javier joined the HolaCode program 5 months ago. This is a programming bootcamp and social enterprise that works with refugees, deported and returned migrants from the US. HolaCode teaches computer programming and helps students find a high demand job, which allows access to social mobility. This means a great opportunity for a career, rather than a lower paying job that is available for those in Javier’s situation.

Javier found a new home in the HolaCode community, and is now looking for a loan to pay for his HolaCode tuition. The loan will be used to invest as a new student until he secures decent employment in the tech sector. HolaCode’s education greatly improved Jorge’s options, increasing his monthly income around 3 times, so that he can finally start his new future.
