Rosa Gerardina's story
Sra. Rosa L. is one of the founding members of this Communal Bank. She lives in the community of San Miguel in the El Valle Parish of Cuenca. She is 32 years old, married, and has 5 children ranging in age from 1 to 18. Her two oldest sons (the first and third children) are students at the Salesiano Technical School. Her oldest daughter (the second child) graduated from a sewing academy and now works in order to contribute to the household expenses. The second youngest child attends kindergarten in San Miguel. Her husband works as a bricklayer, which has helped her family get ahead. The most gratifying result of her hard work is being able to own a home.
Rosa raises animals such as chickens, pigs, and guinea pigs. She has been engaged in this business for several years and sells her animals in the community and at local fairs. Rosa has worked with the Foundation on 19 previous loan cycles. The funding she has received has benefited her home and her business. With this new loan, she will buy more chickens and guinea pigs since they grow faster. She will also purchase feed for the animals. Her goal is to gradually increase the number of other animals that she raises so that her family can get ahead.
