Total loan: $7,000

San Francisco, CA, United States / Retail

Ted's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped helps me move into to a work studio where I can make all my bath products in one site. Before I had 2 sites for making my bath products. With one site I can have all my raw ingredients, my equipment, packaging for making my bath products.

Ted's story

I came to San Francisco with $50 in my pocket in August 2012. I was homeless for five months, living in a shelter. I managed to find a room in a Single Room Occupancy (SRO) where I currently live. Shortly thereafter, I completed the Change in Homelessness through Employment and Food Service program offered by Episcopal Services. Then I started my own chocolate/caramel business. After one year, I realized my profit was limited because I didn’t have access to a commercial kitchen. A friend gave me the book “Soap Crafting”. I found it to be a natural fit because soap making uses many of the skills I learned in the culinary program. I quickly expanded into making lotions and body butters and found that I enjoyed creating beautiful products from natural ingredients. Great reviews from my family and friends came pouring in. I knew I had found my calling and started my business -- 4yourmindbodyspirit -- in March, 2014. Ultimately, I am resilient, resourceful, and creative, and my goal is to make bath and beauty products that will comfort your mind, body, and spirit.
