Nahashon's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a biodigester to power his farm and home with his cow’s manure.

Nahashon's story

Nahashon is a farmer in Githunguri and has 3 cows. He lives with 5 family members, and the money earned from the farm is the main source of income to support his family. He dreams of expanding his milk production in a sustainable way.

Nahashon is currently spending too much money and time on the firewood required to heat the milk and to power his home for cooking and hot water. His 6 cubic meter Sistema Biobolsa biodigester will allow him to use the abundant cow manure on-site to produce biogas to replace propane. The biodigester will transform the "waste" into two important resources: methane-rich, renewable biogas and potent biofertilizer.

Not only will Nahashon use the biogas to heat milk, cook and heat bathwater for his family, but also Nahashon will use the biofertilizer from the biodigester to increase yields on his crops. With this biofertilizer, he will no longer have to resort to expensive, petroleum-based agrochemical fertilizers.

This loan represents 64% of the total cost of the biodigester; the remaining part is covered by a government subsidy.
