A loan helped to buy some more mulberry for her business of making tapa (barkcloth).

Seini's story

Seini is 50 years old and a married woman with nine children. Two of them are still attending school.

She runs a business of making tapa (barkcloth) in Tongatapu. She has been in this business for several years now and sells her products at the market.

Her business was running smoothly until last February, when Tonga was struck by a very strong cyclone named Gita that affected most of the Tongan people's lives. Seini’s house was destroyed by the cyclone, and her business was also affected. She says that the main challenge that she faced was that her tapas that were stored in the house were damaged by the cyclone.

Seini requested this rehabilitation loan through SPBD to help her recover her business from the cyclone damage to continue an earning income for them. In the future, she’s planning to renovate the house for her family and is dreaming she’ll be able to educate her children.
