A loan helped to buy more sacks of green bananas.

Robinah's story

Robinah is 24 years old and lives in the town of Makindye, in the Makindye region of Uganda. She is single and has one child who is currently in school. For the past five years, Robinah has been working hard to manage her food stall, which sells green bananas.

To help expand her business, Robinah has requested a loan of 1,200,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more sacks of green bananas, and will help Robinah to generate greater profits. Higher profits from her expanded business will enable Robinah to afford basic needs of life, improve her standard of living, cater for her child, and at the same time pay the respective school dues. Robinah hopes that in the future she will be able to own a car and become a landlord.

Robinah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
