Elvia Francisca's story

Elvia Francisca is an outstanding entrepreneur who lives in San Juan del Obispo, Sacatepéquez, Guatemala. She is 53 years old with a third-grade education. She is married with six children, only one of whom is still at home and in school. She has several businesses, selling used clothing, cosmetics from a catalog, and seasonal fruit. Her husband is a construction worker, and when he has no work, she is the sole support of the household.

Doña Elvia is starting her third nine-month loan cycle with the Namaste Creating Prosperity program. During the first two cycles, she had many hours of instruction on how to manage a business. She also had a business advisor who gave her advice on how to grow her particular business. With each cycle, she has received a slightly larger loan which she invests in her business with the guidance of her business advisor. This cycle she will continue her education, and she and her advisor have decided to use her loan to buy a large batch of used clothing.

Her dream is for her youngest daughter to graduate, and to take over her business eventually. She wants to keep growing the business, so it will provide for her in her old age and also be there for her daughter’s future.

During her first cycle, she had an average monthly net profit of 4,556 Guatemalan Quetzales. During the second cycle, her average monthly net profit was Q. 6,166, and she hopes to increase that number to Q. 6,770.
