António's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase greenhouses that will help increase and secure his production of vegetables.

António's story

45-year-old António grows and sells vegetables in his 1.3 ha land in Marracuene. He lives with his wife and 3 children, of whom 2 are going to school. He wishes to keep providing for his family even after he retires, and his way of doing this is through agriculture.

He dreams of becoming a permanent vegetable supplier in the province of Maputo, and of the experiences he will pass on and motivate young producers to bet on agriculture.

António wants to guarantee production of large quantities and good quality products to the local market. Thus he wants to invest in proper equipment and techniques. Purchasing fully equipped tropicalized greenhouses will enable António to produce quality vegetables throughout the year.

Currently, he is unable to produce vegetables during the Mozambican summer due to very hot temperatures and long periods of direct sunlight during roughly the months of October-April.

The greenhouses will open up great business opportunities as the supply of vegetables in the Maputo region is very low during these months and the prices are very advantageous. The equipment includes a drip irrigation system which further enables António to take advantage of growing vegetables in a controlled environment.

António is enrolled in a local program that supports a portion of the investment in equipment. He is searching for financing of approximately the final 15% of the greenhouse cost in order to leverage the available support.
