Ma'ata's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a new motor for one of her machines that she uses for her handicrafts and also varnish for her product.

Ma'ata's story

Ma'ata is 36 years old, the mother of six children and is married in to a mechanic husband. Her husband works in her own occupation, while Ma'ata is running her business of handicrafts to help provide them more income. Her business is located at her home, and she's self-employed, working alone in making her handicrafts.

Her finished products she sells to help her husband. He only helps her with gathering woods and coconuts that she needs for her handicrafts.

Last February, a strong cyclone named Gita hit Tonga and affected most of Tongan lives. The cyclone destroyed her house's roof, and it has caused the rain to get in the house to damage her mats and weaving. She's also facing the challenges of her customers' ordered products and late repayments. Even through these problems, Ma'ata is working hard to continue on running her business to earn some income to help pay back her loan and for her family as well. Her vision is to educate her children for a better future.
