Melelupe's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy some more pandanus, so she can weave enough products for her customers.

Melelupe's story

Melelupe is 58 years old and a mother of six children. She's married to a carpenter. Her husband's income is insufficient to deal with all the family's expenses.

Melelupe had a loan to start her business of weaving. She used her loan to buy some more pandanus, so that she could weave and meet her customers' demands.

Melelupe's business is working with some other women in her village. They sell her finished products to earn monthly income for her.

Last February, Tonga was struck by the most intense cyclone on record and, sadly, this affected Melelupe's house. Part of the roof was blown off and rain entered and flooded their house and some of her products, such as two mats and three ta'ovala, were all wet. Not only that, her pandanus plantation was completely destroyed.

Melelupe still continues to recover her business and also run it to earn some more income. She also continues to reach for her vision of the future of her business. If she can provide some more income for her family, one day, she will be able to be fully responsible for the needs of her family and not be dependent on remittance from overseas families.
