Zarina's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to invest in land for a new workshop and buy raw materials to increase production, employ more women artisans, and preserve traditional felt techniques.
In the small villages of rural Kyrgyzstan, it is difficult to find long-term employment opportunities. Five years ago, Zarina founded a small organization to employ local women and preserve the felting techniques of her village. Together, they create traditional Shydrak carpets, which are sold to visiting tourists. Over time, Zarina's artisan collective increased their sales, received new orders, and created a wider range of handcrafted products. Now, Zarina employs 8 women and runs a small workshop that participates in both local and international markets. Zarina plans to use a loan of $8,000 to invest in land for a new workshop and buy raw materials for upcoming markets. By purchasing her own land, instead of paying high rent for a small workspace, Zarina will create new jobs for local women and increase their sales each year.
