A loan helped to order some more mulberry for her business in order to make some more tapa to export to Australia and sell there.

Manukailopa's story

Manu is 37 years old, she's married with four children who are living together in their own home. Manu’s husband works in their own plantation while Manu had a loan and created a business of tapa making to help her husband’s income for their family living.

Her business is located at her home place, the market and some are sold and exported to Australia. Her business is running smoothly; sometimes she hires some people to help her when she has had loads of orders from her customers

Last February, Tonga was struck by the most intense cyclone on record and sadly this affected Manu's business. She faces the challenge that selling mulberry in the market which she used to sell at $80 has now decreased and sells for only $35 or $40; which causes a risk to Manu's income and business.

She is now continuing with running her tapa making business to earn some more income to help with the paying back of her loan and also to reach her goal to renovate her house in a way where she can develop her family.
