Nathaly's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped buy a new signage for my store, equipment purchases such as modern pedicure stations, retail such as nail polishes and body butter and scrub ingredients.

Nathaly's story

Hi, I’m Nathaly Rodriguez, born in Ecuador, and raised in Queens, NY. I was raised by a single immigrant mother working hard to support two kids. I always felt that financial independence was extremely important so I wouldn’t have to bother my family. I started working at an early age, while attending school to receive an education. While in college, I was able to land a job at ASPCA, a non-profit organization advocating against the cruelty towards animals. I always knew that deep down inside there was more that I wanted to be doing, so I began to plan the launch of my own business. I knew that it had to be something that brings people joy, and that I identify with. I love to make people happy and create communal and nurturing spaces, which has been a common theme throughout my whole career, and so what better answer than, a nail salon! As I signed up for Nail Technology school, the new city regulations had just been released, that all new salons have to install an HVAC system strong enough to suck all the fumes, and particles from the air in order to ensure a safer work environment. This truly made me rejoice, knowing that I was entering an industry that was just about to shift for the better. No matter how carefully you plan and budget, starting a new business costs a lot of money, and often has unexpected costs. Most of my start-up capital comes from savings, and a 401k distribution I took once I left the ASPCA. However, I could really use the loan from the Kiva platform to help cover some of the costs of inventory and redesigning my store to make it look as inviting as possible!
