Laura's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped market my company online through creating a standout website, develop a winning marketing campaign thereafter and provide working capital for Real World College Students.

Laura's story

Education and learning have been natural magnets since I was a child. I grew up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. When I was in the first grade, teachers told my parents that I was a smart tyke and that they should send me to an even better school. I attended P.S. 286 in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn the following year. I then attended Shellbank JHS. I excelled at both schools. Knowing and feeling inside that you’re smart is everything—cultivating confidence and success. Writing and storytelling became additional magnets. I attended Brooklyn’s Edward R. Murrow HS. Next stop? Barnard College. An English major with a Writing Concentration. We lived in Brooklyn Heights now. Wonderful years at Barnard, and I graduated with distinction in 1986 for a play I wrote. My career goal was to work as a screenwriter. I developed a portfolio of scripts. I became an entrepreneur in 1991, establishing Literary Polish by Peoples. I began teaching evening courses in 1995. And, getting work as a script doctor. I was a busy, happy bee. However, I slowly realized that my passion was indeed teaching and sharing my knowledge and expertise about excellent writing, language & ideas and psychology—and their power—with students. Especially female students. From the mid-1990s through 2016, I taught more college courses and at private institutions/nonprofits: essay/business writing, psychology, interpersonal skills+. I was happiest in the classroom and I connected with students easily. While I established Real World College Students in 2013, I have provided these services for many years as a private writing and academic tutor. I have a thick folder of acceptance letters from Ivy League and top-tier schools. I am particularly proud of having helped tons of women move forward. My future goal is to establish an educational center.
