Las Fresas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy pants, skirts, blouses, dresses, and shoes.

Las Fresas Group's story

Ilda, a 70-year-old mother of seven children all over the age of 34 and a grandmother of many, is one of seven ladies in the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Fresas” or “The Strawberries” in the department/state of Quiche.

She, along with the other women, is beginning her first Kiva loan. She sells a variety of clothing and is requesting a Kiva loan to buy pants, skirts, blouses, dresses, and shoes.

Ilda wants her business to expand and create more income. In the past, she has earned money to send her children through high school and they now have better living conditions and comfortable homes!

Ilda and her friends participate in monthly educational trainings, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services. She shares, “I really enjoy our monthly meetings when I can make loan payments and get good practical advice about business practices, health, nutrition and self esteem. One of the topics that has especially helped me is how to budget, manage and invest my loan. I have also learned to be punctual with my monthly payments.”

These women are firmly committed to a brighter future and take a little “microbus” on a dirt road for 30 minutes to arrive on time at their meetings. They provide a great support system for each other and appreciate the generosity of Kiva lenders partnering with Friendship Bridge. Thank you, Kiva lenders for helping these women empower themselves and create brighter futures!
