Mele's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to rent a boat for her transportation from their little island to the market located in the main island of Vava'u, to buy some pandanus for her weaving business also to hire some other women to help her.

Mele's story

Mele is fifty years old and a talented weaver. Because her husband and she struggled in the past to raise their three children, she decided to stand up and find a way to help the family survive, and a weaving business was it.

In her village Mele heads a group of women weavers who weave their individual mats and cover for someone who is absent. But her lack of capital has not let her hire enough weavers to help her consistently fill her orders on time.

Mele has applied for a 2,000 TOP loan through Kiva's field partner SPBD to rent a boat to travel from her village to the market, buy pandanus (screw pine fiber) to weave with and hire more weavers. She's willing to work hard to see her business grow and so improve her family’s chances for a brighter future.
