Teresia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as certified seeds and fertilizers to improve her production, generate more income and as a single mum, to elevate her children's quality of life.
Teresia (pictured above) is a single mother with an unending desire to achieve. She hails from a remote village in the Litein area of Kenya, where farming has been embraced as the only primary economic activity. Teresia has never shifted her attention away from farming but has always worked hard to meet her set objectives. Teresia enjoys generating an income through selling her harvest, which makes her feel accomplished. To her, labor is not a major challenge, but she finds the cost of farming inputs very high. Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizers and seeds allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured in the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement on inputs availability than earlier before. Teresia is seeking this loan to buy farm inputs such as certified seeds and nutrient rich fertilizers. This loan will enable her to improve her production through the use of quality farm inputs. This intervention will help her fill the increasing demand for food in the market and, in the process, generate more income to repay the loan debt and elevate the quality of life for her children.
