I was born in Richlands, Virginia and currently live in Abingdon, Virginia. I have lived nearly all my life in Southwest Virginia. I am a proud son and grandson of coal miners. I received my first public job as a dishwasher in a local restaurant when I was 16. One of the waitress’s husbands worked in a steel shop that produced coal chutes and I kept asking him if he could get me a job there once I graduated high school. Shortly, after graduating I did get a job installing ceramic tiles in steel chutes in that same steel shop. I fell in love with steel industry, but my first job in the steel shop was short lived because of rough times in the coal industry and I was laid off. Soon I started work in another facility and began my climb up the ladder. It took several years but I became a certified welder, lead fitter and foreman. Years later I was given the chance to work in the drawing room. I believe the Lord has been with me from the beginning. He has placed people in my life to guide me and help me along the way even when I didn't even know where I was going. I am very thankful for the opportunities the Lord’s given me. Quality jobs are needed more than ever in SWVA and we have what it takes to create them. Beneath the drafting tables and high-tech computers in our office, are footrests my dad made. One stool has wormy chestnut wood from my grandfather’s old Buchanan County barn, and that heritage keeps us grounded in this place while we work on drawings for buildings that could be built anywhere in the world.
