Mbacke's story

Madame Macke S. is a 45-year old married woman who has been involved with the Baye Laye credit union in Guediawaye for a long time already. She has already had 4 previous loans. She helps support her 4 children (aged 6 to 26) and four other people. Her primary business is selling fabrics, but she also sells ice cream and juices, and provides refrigerated storage of fish and meat for her clients. This work allows her to manager her family household as well as earn a living. The upcoming pre-holiday perioid is very important for Mme. S., because she usually sells a lot of merchandise. She asks for a loan of 500,000 XOF to purchase fabric for her fashion business, and also to purchase a new engine for her second fridge as it hasn't been working for some time now. Some day, she would like to travel in the sub-region, and maybe even go to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where all the big merchants get their merchandise. Since her husband has very limited resources, the loans have allowed her to increase her income to help pay for her personal needs and assure that her children can attend school.
