Jane's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers to improve her production and generate more income to elevate the quality of life for her family.

Jane's story

Jane is 41 years old. She is very clear and straightforward about what she wants in life, which is to give her family a good quality life. She lives in a poor, rural village in Eldoret.

Jane started farming due to economic necessity. As young as she is, she possesses immense knowledge, skills, and experience in farming. She also practices crop farming, but she has not been making good profits because of poor farming inputs.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers.

Since Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in the availability of inputs.

With this loan, Jane will be able to purchase certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers to greatly improve her crop production. Using these inputs, Jane will be assured of increased profits and will thus be able to improve her living standards.

Jane’s dream is to continue to expand her mixed farm and thus be able to tell the story that—thanks to Kiva's dedicated employees, the wonderful Kiva lenders, and the help of Juhudi Kilimo—she has improved her farm's productivity.
