Peter's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase rice inputs to support over 8,000 smallholder farmers.

Peter's story

Peter has worked in the rice sector for over 16 years. After working for two private rice processing companies, Peter and his business partner knew they could do better to support local farmers and opened their own rice processing business. Currently, Peter partners with 20 cooperatives and over 8,000 farmers. His company processes a staple food for Rwanda (rice) and does so locally in Rwanda, which is not the norm. This means more jobs are created in Rwanda. The rice sector is Rwanda will only continue to grow, as nearly all Rwandans eat it daily, and the government has prioritized decreasing rice imports and increasing locally grown rice. Peter’s rice business helps farmers access seeds, fertilizer, markets, and technical assistance, but all of this - combined with the capital intensiveness of the agricultural sector - mean Peter needs addition capital to support all of the 8,000+ farmers he works with and help them increase their income and send their children to school. This loan not only helps support a promising Rwandan small and growing business but also supports thousands of rural farmers and their families to support themselves and provide a better life for their children.
