A loan helped to buy calves for rearing.

Abdu's story

Abdu is a 43 year old man, married with children who attend school. He is into agriculture, mainly cattle keeping and food crop growing which has been his main source of income ever since he entered the working class.

His income mainly comes from selling farm yields to food markets, milk sales, cattle fattening and cattle trade. This is how he has managed to sustain his family as well as educating his children.

Abdu says that he learned all about farming through helping out at the family farm and he is full of praises for his parents who laid him a solid foundation.

He has applied for a loan to buy calves for rearing so that he can expand his farm and this will create a buffer in case of any emergency in the future--i.e. sickness, school fees or they can be sold to boost or start a new business.

Abdu is confident that his income will increase, thereby making him financially able to look after his big family. He appreciates the funders for empowering farmers financially. His biggest challenge is the unpredictable price fluctuations which sometimes lower his profits.
