A loan helped to stock more soda and water.

Patricia's Group's story

Patricia's group is comprised of 2 hard working women. Patricia is 23 years old and lives in the town of Njeru in the Njeru region of Uganda. She is single and has one child. For the past 1 year, she has been working hard to manage her Soft Drinks, which sells soda and water.

To help expand her business, Patricia has requested a loan of 800,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to stock more soda and water, and will help Patricia to generate greater profits. Higher profits from the expanded business will enable Patricia to afford the basic needs of life, improve her standard of living, and cater for her child.

Patricia hopes that in the future she will be able to to own a wholesale business.

Patricia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
