Ang Nua 39 Group's story

Born in a poor house, Mai, age 39, is an ethnic Thai woman who is married and has a son and a daughter. They are in the 12th and 4th grades. She has been a farmer since she was a little girl and has tried so hard to provide for the family. She especially tries to give the best education to her children because she doesn’t want them to go through as many hardships as she did because she had to drop out of school. Sometimes, she had to borrow money to pay her children’s tuition.

The family only relies on agricultural production to earn a living, and previously, their life was really difficult because of the instability of income from agriculture as a result of their old traditional technique. She did not know how to choose good rice seeds, which led to crop failure. Normally, she can collect 14-15 bags of rice, but that time, she only collected 2 bags.

Recently, she has taken out a loan from the Anh Chi Em program to buy a cow to expand her farming. She hopes that with the support from the Anh Chi Em team, this investment will be successful and help her reap good profits, which she plans to use to repay another loan from a relative. When she built a new kitchen last year, she had to borrow from a relative. She dreams of giving the best education to her children. In the picture, she stands at the first from the right.
