Catherine's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a chaff cutter, which is a mechanical device that is used to cut hay into small pieces, to aid her in feeding her cows.

Catherine's story

Hello, Kiva lenders! Meet Catherine, a hardworking, dedicated and honest 59-year-old dairy farmer.

As the key breadwinner of her family (which includes her husband and children), she farms a small plot of land in the green, lush hills of Chuka, in the central region of Kenya. For the past 10 years, she has been practicing mixed farming. Her primary source of income has been selling milk, dairy goats, eggs and tea. She also engages in a small business to supplement the meager income she earns through farming.

Catherine passionately loves dairy farming, but the biggest challenges she faces are feeding her cows and satisfying the largely unsatisfied milk market. She is seeking a loan to buy a chaff cutter. The chaff cutter will assist Catherine in cutting hay into small pieces before being mixed with other forage to feed her cows. Also, it will aid the animal’s digestion and prevent the animals from rejecting any part of their food.

Her dream is to continue improving her dairy breeds and increase milk productivity to achieve better living standards. Catherine fears that her dreams might not be realized if Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva lenders cease to provide the reliable market credit facility.

Kindly and humbly lend to a mom in honor of international women’s day.
