Brenda Gorretti's story

Brenda Gorretti is 17 years old and lives in the town of Ggaba in the Makindye region of Uganda. For the past year, Brenda Gorretti has been working hard to manage her fast food stall, which sells chips and pancakes.

To help expand her business, Brenda Gorretti has requested a loan of 500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more wheat flour and cooking oil, which will help Brenda Gorretti to generate greater profits.

Having higher profits from the expanded business will put Brenda in position to buy more basic needs at home, improve her standard of living in the short run and also enable her to take care of her siblings as well.

Brenda Gorretti hopes that in the future she will be able to to build rental houses.

Brenda Gorretti is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
