El Rosal Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a loom.

El Rosal Group's story

The department/state of Totonicapan is in the Western Highlands of Guatemala, near the Sierra Madres mountains. In this region live 11 women who have formed the Friendship Bridge trust bank El Rosal to enhance their businesses of tailoring; making shoes and traditional Mayan clothing such as huipiles (blouses) and cortes (skirts); and raising pigs and chickens. These women are starting their second loan cycle with Kiva.

Every month, the El Rosal trust bank meets to pay their loans and receive the benefits of Friendship Bridge's Microcredit Plus program. This program helps more than 28,000 women in Guatemala with microloans, healthcare access, and non-formal education on the themes of family, health, business, and female empowerment.

Juana is 23 years old and with her husband she has two young girls, aged 2 and 3 years. She attended only four years of formal schooling. Juana has her own artisanal business handmaking traditional belts, and with this loan she is buying a loom. Juana is grateful to participate in the Microcredit Plus program since she has been able to grow her business with the financial skills she’s learned. Also, this month’s theme of hygiene helped her realize that she wants to truly be a role model for her children when it comes to washing her hands, body, and face daily.

Thank you for the support! It’s thanks to your generosity that Juana is able to improve her business to create a brighter future for her daughters.
