A loan helped to stock more clothes for her boutique.

Jovia's Group's story

Jovia's group is comprised of 2 hard working women. Jovia is 23 years old and lives in the town of Bulenga in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has one child, who is currently in school. For the past 3 years Jovia has been working hard to manage her boutique, which sells clothes.

To help expand her business, Jovia has requested a share of 2000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to stock more clothes for the boutique business to help Jovia to generate greater profits. The higher profits will afford basic needs at home, cater for her child and pay the respective school fees. Jovia hopes that in the future she will be able to to purchase a container of clothes and expand boutique operations.

Jovia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
