A loan helped buy new perfumes, colognes, deodorants, creams, and shampoo.

San Lucas Group's story

Mirza is one of seven members of the Friendship Trust Bank "San Lucas". They all have had the opportunity to attend school from primary through high school. They are pleased to begin their first loan cycle with Kiva and are hopeful for their small businesses that sell products like lotions, perfumes, and deodorants; sell shoes and women's sandals; or sell chicken by the pound or corn and tomato seeds.

35-year-old Mirza has three children (7, 16, and 17 years old) who are in the 1st, 7th, and 10th grades. The income from her catalogue product sales goes towards her children's education, as well as to household expenses. She is requesting a loan to buy new perfumes, colognes, deodorants, creams, and shampoo.

Without a doubt, access to small loans helps women like Mirza grow their businesses. However, they are able to do it more successfully through monthly meetings with a facilitator that provides valuable educational sessions that engage the women in topics like health, nutrition, and business management skills like budgeting, saving, and investing. These are a part of the Friendship Bridge "Microcredit Plus" program of loans, education, and health care services. The partnership with Kiva investors provides the important tools for the women of "San Lucas" to develop strong businesses and become empowered women. Thank you for your generosity!
