Nua Ngam 56 Group's story

Phong is a 37-year-old Lao ethnic woman who is married and has two children: a 10-year-old son and a newborn daughter. She lives with her husband and her beloved children in a small house which is made from straw and mud in a remote village where people mainly rely on small scale agricultural production.

Phong did not have chance to study when she was young, so currently she is illiterate. She does not want her children to face a lot of difficulties like her so she and her husband work very hard to be able to send her children to school and have a good future.

Phong and her husband work at farming and animal husbandry. They grow rice, cassava and corn, and raise cows, pigs and chickens. She successfully repaid five loans from Anh Chi Em. This time, she has taken out a loan to buy fertilizer for cassava. She hopes that the productivity of the next cassava harvest will be higher.

She dreams that her family will move out of poverty and she can send her children to a good college to have a brighter future. In the picture, she stands at the first from the right.
