Agnes's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to pay for the academic fees of an MSc in Counselling Psychology.

Agnes's story

Agnes is a Wedu Rising Star, selected for her leadership potential and keen desire to be a changemaker in her community. This is her story:

I am from Myanmar and was raised in Yangon by my mother, who worked tirelessly to support my education. I have taught English in Myanmar to underprivileged children, their caregivers, and Buddhist monks for over ten years.

In 2009, I embarked on a new journey, earning a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Psychology at University of Yangon in Myanmar. I later moved to Bangkok to pursue my MSc in Counselling Psychology at Assumption University as this was not an option in my home country. This request for FISA financing through Kiva is to pay for my academic and thesis defense fees.

Whilst in Thailand, I volunteered to teach English to the Myanmar migrant workers every Sunday. I also advocated for and empowered migrant workers, trafficked persons and refugees from many countries. I did this through teaching and providing counselling to them at the Bangkok Refugee Center.

I am passionate about learning and helping others and have steadily continued my education, training, and enhancement of professional skills. My passion lead me to establish a charity nursery in a rural village in Chin State, Myanmar. After graduating I want to work as a clinical psychologist and support the underserved community.

Through Wedu and my mentor I have been able to develop my leadership skills to better support my community.
