Mujeres Promesas Group's story

The generous helping hand of Kiva investors, in partnership with Friendship Bridge, creates a dynamic program of loans, education, & healthcare services "Microcredit Plus" that benefits over 28,000 women in Guatemala.

With lessons in business, family, health & women's issues, they become innovative empowered women. The women are members of Trust Banks where they meet monthly to make loan payments & engage with a Facilitator in valuable lessons in business, women, health & family.

One of the Trust Banks, “Mujeres Promesas” is located in the Guatemalan department of Chimaltenango not far from Guatemala's capital city.

“Mujeres Promesas” is made up of 8 Maya Kaqchikel women, who live in the high mountains near the ancient Maya city of Ixim Che. The women have between two & six years of formal education. They mostly have convenience stores. They are in their 1st loan cycle with Kiva investors.

Juana is a member with a 2nd grade education. She is 29 years old, married & has a convenience store. She is requesting a loan to buy soda pop wholesale. The soda will increase her inventory & satisfy her client's demands.

Each participating Kiva investor provides brighter futures for Juana & her friends in “Mujeres Promesas” by funding their loans.

Thank you for your generous support that helps the ladies create pathways out of poverty!
