Femenil Group's story

There are 7 Maya K’iche’ ladies, members of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Feminil” who meet each month in the department/state of Quiche. They are beginning their 2nd loan cycle with KIVA & will invest the funds into their convenience stores, traditional textile business & their small farms where they raise animals. The women gain essential tools from the “Microcredit Plus” program (loans, education, healthcare services) of Friendship Bridge. At their meetings, they learn about an aspect of 4 main topics that include business management, health, families, women. Because they have little or no formal education, these sessions are crucial to their success.

Irma, a 28 year old single member of the group with a 6th grade education. She has a small farm where she raises chickens & cows. She is requesting a loan to buy 3 dozen chickens & a calf. She dreams of enlarging her operation & selling her animals in other nearby markets.

The goals & dreams of Irma, as well as her friends, are realized because of their own determination, along with the effective partnership of KIVA & Friendship Bridge. Thank you, KIVA investors, for your generosity in funding these much appreciated loans! Happy New Year!
