Mercy's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy farm inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, to improve the quality of her farm products and increase her income.

Mercy's story

Mercy, 28, is a brilliant, hardworking Kenyan lady whose home is on a small piece of farmland in Litein. Her husband and their children give her a lot of help and support in running the business.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of the agricultural revolution. In Kenya, however, a developing country, the government's allocation of fertilizers and seeds is way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in the availability of inputs.

In a bid to expand her farm, Mercy is seeking a loan for 20,000 Kenyan shillings to purchase farm inputs. Expanding her farm will mean diversifying her production and growing many crop varieties. Increased output will lead to enormous profits, and Mercy will be able to meet her family's basic needs.

Mercy is an enterprising woman who wishes to establish a bigger agribusiness farm in the future. She will also enjoy economies-of-scale after expanding her farm. This will enable her to buy farm materials and inputs at cheaper prices than other sellers. She is so thankful for this opportunity.
