Olivia Nakintu 's Group's story

Olivia is a 33-year-old married woman with four children, ages 3 to 15 years old. All of her children go to school. She owns a two-room house where she lives with six people. Olivia takes care of family members in addition to her children. The family has access to electricity, but no piped water. Olivia works in semi-urban area on the outskirts of Kampala. She owns a stall where she sells second-hand clothes. She uses public transportation to travel to and from her shop. Olivia doesn’t pay rent for her stall, but she pays monthly dues and operating license fees. She is challenged by increasing clothing prices and buyers who borrow from her and then default. Olivia sells to all kinds of people and receives about 20 customers a day. Olivia works seven days a week. Her monthly expenses include medication and food for her family. She has been in the clothing business for ten years and she has been a member of MCDT for eight years. She is now servicing her sixteenth loan, working with the same group-mates. She wants to use this loan to buy more used clothing.
