Umaru's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more fishing tackle to expand his sales in his community.

Umaru's story

26-year-old Umaru is single and from Tombo in Sierra Leone. He went to school up to second grade. In 2012 he began selling fishing tackle, a business his parents taught him. (He also farms.) He started this business to become independent.

Umaru works twelve hours a day, six days a week. He says that the main challenge to his business is limited capital for expansion.

Umaru has applied for a 6,000,000 SLL loan through Kiva's field partner BRAC Sierra Leone to buy more fishing tackle to expand his business in his community. He hopes that the extra income from this loan will allow him to improve his living standards. With his profits he plans to buy a boat and nets for fishing himself.

Umaru dreams not only of having good equipment to fish with, but to buy his own house. He thanks you for your support.
