Jenifer's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped a divorced woman to start raising poultry on her farm to sell eggs, meat and poultry manure, and through profits from the business, improve her living condition.

Jenifer's story

Although divorced, Jenifer (pictured in a white top with her neighbor farmer in a red striped sweater) does not let her status define who she wants to be or where she wants to go. She has been farming for the past 20 years, and over this time, she has gathered much experience and is considered among the best farmers in her village.

Jenifer is the sole breadwinner in her household, and to support her family, she decided to venture into food production. Dairy farming and organic farming methods have enabled her to give her children the best she can afford. She works to ensure her children never lack food on their table.

Jenifer sells milk at her local market and needs to expand her enterprise so that she will be able to meet the tuition requirements for her children. The idea she deems viable is poultry farming. She has immense knowledge in raising poultry since she was brought up in a family that practiced poultry farming. She believes she will be able to increase her profits by selling eggs, poultry meat and poultry manure.

Jenifer is inspired by the efforts of Juhudi Kilimo to alleviate rural poverty by elevating the lives of rural smallholder farmers through loans and asset financing. She has taken out a loan that will help her start a poultry enterprise.
