Nicholas's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a biodigester to reduce the cost of his farm and save money for his kids school fees.

Nicholas's story

Nicholas has 2 children and lives in Gatundu. He works hard to produce quality fruits, tea and he also raises cows.

Currently, Nicholas finds himself spending excessive amounts on petroleum-based fertilizer and the cost continues to increase. He also believes that the chemical fertilizer hurts the quality of his fruits and worries about the impact of the chemicals on his local environment.

Nicholas wants to reduce his operating costs and sees his investment in a 6 cubic meter Sistema Biobolsa biodigester as an excellent opportunity. Using the biodigester, he will be able to turn the cow manure generated daily on his farm into biofertilizer and renewable energy. He'll feed the system with manure and through a process of anaerobic digestion, the organic waste will be transformed into methane-rich, renewable, potent organic fertilizer and biogas. The biofertilizer will be applied to his crops, improving both quality and yields without him having to spend more on petroleum-based agrochemical fertilizers. The biogas will replace the propane he currently uses to cook and to heat bathwater for his family.

Nicholas will use the savings from his farm to pay school fees for his two little kids.

This loan represents 62% of the full price of the biodigester; the remaining part was covered by a cash downpayment and a government subsidy.
