Erasmo's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy fully equipped greenhouses to help in the production of vegetables.

Erasmo's story

40-year-old Erasmo lives in Namaacha with his wife and two children. He comes from a family of farmers who have worked in the same farm since the year 1931. In 2000, Erasmo took over the business.

Agriculture has helped him invest in the education of his children and in food security for his family and his community. That is why he is committed to his field. “It is healthy to work on the field.” Erasmo’s challenges include lack of irregular precipitation and droughts.

Five fully equipped tropicalized greenhouses will be purchased with the funds, which will enable Erasmo to produce quality vegetables throughout the year. Due to very hot temperatures and heavy rainfall, Erasmo is unable to produce vegetables during the months of October to April. The greenhouse will open up great business opportunities since supply of vegetables in Maputo is very low during these months. The equipment includes a drip irrigation system which Erasmo will take advantage of to grow strawberries and green beans in a controlled environment.

Erasmo is enrolled in a local program which supports a portion of the investment in equipment. He is searching for financing of approximately the final 15% of the greenhouse cost in order to leverage the available support.

He would like to own a horticulture processing factory one day, as well as better machinery for his farm and transportation for his products from the farm to the market.
