Orquideas De Patzun Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy thread/yarn and fabric, as well as other supplies for her business.

Orquideas De Patzun Group's story

In a rural area in the department/state of Chimaltenango, where many families work on farms or make traditional textiles, 11 ladies are beginning their second loan cycle with Kiva. Their Trust Bank is called “Orquideas de Patzun.” The women work hard at their businesses to meet the needs of their families, including the education of their children.

Florinda, a married 47-year-old woman who does not have children, works alongside her husband, weaving and embroidering colorful traditional blouses or “huipiles.” It is important for the couple to earn enough because Florinda’s mother-in-law depends on them to cover her living expenses.

Florinda’s business is growing, and she employs 2 ladies to work with her. She is requesting a loan to buy thread/yarn and fabric, as well as other supplies for the business.

Besides being able to access credit, Florinda and her friends participate in monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans and education. They learn about everyday topics like health, hygiene and nutrition, as well as empowerment and self esteem. The ladies also acquire essential business tools like planning, budgeting, investing and savings.

The women in the group send their gratitude to Kiva investors for funding their loans, and they also want to wish everyone a “Merry Christmas”!
