Alla Kan Soutra Group's story

The four members of Alla Kan Soutra Group are married women who, on average, are 32 years old and have three children. Most of them live in monogamous families in Millionkin, a neighborhood of the city of Loulouni in the third administrative region of the Republic of Mali. They have just joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to meet the ever rising demand of their customers.

They sell fruits, food condiments and beans, and are active in catering. They will use their loan to buy fruits (2 bunches of bananas and 3 baskets of oranges), 5 boxes of food condiments, 50 kg of dried beans, 50 kg of rice and 3 boxes of condiments for the catering business. They get their supplies at the market of the city of Loulouni and in the nearby villages. They sell their products in Loulouni, either at home and at the market, or by hawking in the various neighborhoods. They sell for cash and often on credit to a clientele made up of men and women.

They expect to make an average profit of 11,000 CFA francs (US$25) each per month. They will save or spend part of their profit to provide for their families and reinvest part of it in their businesses. They expect to have more capital at their disposal to better meet the demand of their customers and to be able to set up a sales outlet.
