A loan helped to buy a water tank that will stock enough water to sell during the dry seasons.

Dora's story

Dora is 20 years old and lives in the town of Kabuusu in the region of Uganda. She is single and has two children with one of them currently in school. For the past two years, Dora has been working hard to manage her tap water business (she sells water for a living).

To help expand her business, Dora has requested a loan of 1,200,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy a water tank that will stock enough water during the dry seasons to boost her business. This will help Dora to generate greater profits and manage to take care of her family, providing food and clothes as well as saving some money for future plans. Dora hopes that in the future she will be able to diversify business, like starting a produce store.

Dora is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life skills training.
