Cielo 3 Group's story

Sabina is forty-nine years old, she lived all her infancy with her parents, they were of scarce resources, this caused that she learned to manufacture wicker baskets since she was seven years old, so she can help with the household economy. Because of the need for her to work, she did not get the opportunity to study.

At the age of fifteen she got married, at sixteen she had her first child. She feels that, with her marriage she improved her living. Her husband supply for all their needs and don’t permitted her to work, only in domestic work.

She decided to begin a business, she began finding out about credit institutions, this took her to Chajulense Association of Women United for Life. She took her first credit in 2015, she invested in a small grocery store. In 2016, she invested part of her credit in expanding her store and part in buying wicker to manufacture wicker baskets. This year credit will use it to expand her store, buying sodas, eggs, cooking oil, flour and milk.

Sabina is the leader of Cielo Group 3, the group is integrated by six women, all from the Ixil Maya ethnicity. The group will use their loan for retail 17%, manufacture 33%, and agriculture 50%. On average, each member of the group has 5 children, the average age of the members of the group is 37 years old. 33% of the members of the group are illiterate, 33% did not ended primary education, 17% ended their primary education, and 17% got eight grade.
